Nov 6 – We learned how to drop a keel

Once the floor was opened and the fuel tank removed, we were able to cut the fuel basin to expose the keel bolts that needed to be removed.
The next step in the process is to bring in the travel lift again to lift the boat.

keelLifting the boat off the keel

The theory is that the keel will stay on the blocks and just the boat would lift, but this rarely happens. With a little moral persuasion the keel dropped about an inch to the blocks.
The boat was lifted higher to allow room to clean off the old sealant and apply the new sealant (3M’s 5200).     Read more…

Oct 30 – Doing time in Oriental, NC

Obviously not the ideal situation we have found ourselves in, but the keel situation had to be dealt with immediately and we couldn’t have taken it to a better boat yard than Sailcraft in Oriental NC.   It turns out the Katie and Jesse, the two young girls from Michigan that we met in the 1000 Islands also stopped here coincidently… not surprisingly, they remembered them well.   Read more…

Oct 28 – Pulling in for a pit-stop

It was a calm day on the water. Fellow Canadian’s on Jacob’s Ladder and At Last would eventually catch up to us near Oriental. The three of us were to anchor together, but we informed them of our change of plans to hold up at Sailcraft Services to have our keel assessed and repaired if needed. Oriental is a small town, so we tentatively made plans to get together for dinner the next day.     Read more…

Oct 24 – The ICW, from the beginning

After a few days at Port, we start to get a little antsy to get moving again. So with some strong winds we decided to jump across Norfolk Harbor from Hampton with 3′ choppy waves on our stern.  Read more…

Oct 23 – Waiting for weather in Hampton, VA

Sorry about the delay in posting…we have been moving frequently in remote places through Virginia and North Carolina doing 7 hour days…its draining and doesn’t leave much time to write.  Read more…

We are underway… as of July 16, 2014.

We have cut the lines and are now under-way.

My excuses for not posting sooner…  it’s been so busy with selling the home, packing up a house after 20 years with 3 teenage boys and the boat had a few things to do.

Boom De Yada arrival

A few days after hurricane Sandy rolled over the eastern seaboard, luckily no damage done to Annapolis, Julie and I worked most of the weekend breaking down the boat getting it ready for transport!

With trucking curfews and the border crossing, she arrived Wednesday morning, a day late, but all intact. Port Credit Marina splashed her the same day and then stepped the mast on Friday afternoon and we arrived at EYC after dark.

So, as of November 2012, she’s tied and shrink-wrapped for her first Canadian winter… just need to winterize… and christen.

Begin the Beguine

From Dwayne & Julia Sadler; the ‘Go South’ boat became ours Oct. 18, 2012.

We are driving to Annapolis today to prepare her for transport on Monday.

Mast will come down and we will make sure everything is below the 13ft level so she can make it under the bridges on her way to Port Credit Marina where she will be splashed.

By the way, if you’re not familiar with Cole Porter’s song, Begin the Beguine, enjoy it now on YouTube…
