. Jan. 29 (Day 163) – Today’s Activities…

——————————————————————————————

We listened to the Cruiser’s Net on VHF 72 where there was lots of info about all the activities in the next few days: ladies bible study group, softball practice, a meeting of the ‘home-school’ parents and children, afternoon volleyball…but the most interesting announcement for us was the propane fill scheduled for this morning!

It was another windy day making the harbour very choppy, so I elected to stay on the boat while Brian went to town to get our second propane tank filled (thanks Luis).

This was announced on the Cruisers Net as a ‘propane party’, in a parking lot at the far end of Lake Victoria (in the center of George Town. Brian tied the dinghy at the boat ramp and then put our tank in the line-up 20 tanks waiting for a fill-up.

By the time the propane truck arrived, the lineup had grown to 30 tanks, a comical sight with so many tanks lined up across the parking lot!

Once the truck was ready, it didn’t take that long to do the fill-ups…$11 cash for a 10lb tank, $22 for a 20lb tank.

Afterwards, there were some more groceries to pick up, and he was back on board Mar-a-Lago by early afternoon.

After lunch we did some boat chores, then got ready for a special event. Bruce’s friend, Christina, to a beach bonfire happy hour, invited us all.

Christina and Bruce both belong to Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club (ABYC), and she now winters here in Georgetown, living on a houseboat in a secluded bay. Christina and her boat neighbours, most of whom are full time winter live-aboards too, are a fun group and gave us insight into spending winters in Georgetown.

We were all having a super time until the mosquitoes arrived in droves, and got us scrambling into our dinghies.

Luckily we left the bugs behind as we motored back to Mar-a-Lago, where we needed only a light dinner after all the delicious appetizers we had enjoyed…thanks Christina, it was an enjoyable evening!
